GET IN TUNE

In Tune With Mother Nature

If you listen for the songbirds
As they greet the summer sun,
And love the way the wind can make
The trees sings just for fun;

If you like to hear the ocean
As it drums upon the shore,
And imagine all the whales out there,
And hope they'll sing some more;

If you think of all the animals
As players in a band,
Each with a lovely tune to play,
All needed on the land;

And know that as a boy or girl
A woman or a man
You have a vital role to play
In Mother Nature's plan;

If you honor every living thing
As a part of nature's treasure
You're in tune with Mother Nature
So let's all sing her song together.

THE OLDMAN AND THE MERMAID

It was a gray and murky day, There was a real chill in the air,

The wind kept growing stronger, The longer I stayed there.

Invigorating, captivating, An angry, wild sea,

It rushed to and fro with no control, Crashing mercilessly.

"Yes sir," I said to the ole capt, and settled down,

Just as a sheet of lightening glared, Though it flashed far out at sea,

The birds grew silent in the air.

"Oh, this will be a good one, son," With excitement, his eyes glowed,

Together we watched in awe, As the water churned and rose.

Far out on the horizon, We thought we saw a ship,

Was it a ghost or was it real? We kept losing sight of it.

I shook my head, and then I said, "I sure feel sorry for those guys." "

"You bet," the old man answered, Concern showing in his eyes. "

The captain and my shipmates drowned,

I never saw them again." "Well, how did you survive?"

I asked, "One kid from all those men?" "God works in mysterious ways, You'll never guess how He saved me,

A mermaid took me in her arms, And towed me from that sea." "

Her eyes were iridescent, Of many different hues,

Compelling and magnetic,

As if seeing right through you." "Her skin was soft and smooth,

As if dipped and bathed in lotion, A perfect figure, too ...

A floating sculpture in the ocean." "Her arms were strong, yet gentle,

As she pulled me through the waves, Her fish-like body steering me,

Far from my sea-filled grave." That fading ship on the horizon,

I now strained in vain to see, But the old man looked for his mermaid,

As he scrutinized the sea. I hoped the old man saw her,

I hoped the ship did not go down, But, if it did, I hope his mermaid,

Kept another man from being drowned.

Sea Nymph SISTERHOOD

The Sea Nymph

I walked upon the rock strewn shore
and watched a soaring gull
as a great red globe of daybreak sun
shone scarlet on a hulll

On rounded rocks as high as a man
the waves came roaring in.
A spray cloud rose each time of crash
and drifted on the wind

As each great wave rose over the rocks
upon the sandy shore,
a hundred tiny fiddler crabs
ran sideways up before.

Then water ran down in myriad streams
as the waves rolled back beyond
and the fiddler crabs came running back
through each small frothing pond.

It was there that morning I saw the nymph
there standing on the rock,
her naked skin there striving
for nature's secrets to unfrock.

A crimson mist around her glowed
while red rivulets ran down her breast
then with arms outstretched up to the sky
she embraced each wave upon her chest.

The long raven hair streamed in the wind
like banners from a staff
while high above a gull was heard
to cry and sing and laugh.

With piercing eyes she saw me there
and her lips became a smile.
She beckoned with her open arms
while waves crashed all the while.

As the sun rose up into the sky
and lost its crimson hue,
the vision faded and mist turned white
with shades of ocean blue.

Then out beyond the rocky shore
where the water rose smooth with swell
I saw a dolphin rise in arc
and heard its shrill farewell.
